A dual induction of the Riverton Parke National Honor Society (NHS) and the Riverton Parke National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) was held on Monday, February 12th in the gymnasium followed by a reception. Twenty students were inducted into the NHS. Thirty-three students were inducted into the NJHS. Induction into the NHS & NJHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Four main purposes have guided chapters of NHS & NJHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. Requirements for induction included the demonstration of the characteristics of leadership, service, character, and citizenship, as voted on by a faculty council and the school principal, and a minimum 3.25 GPA to meet the characteristic of scholarship. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. The NHS is sponsored by Jennifer Watson and Amanda Warne, and the NJHS is sponsored by Rachel Loomis.
