For the 25th year, area eighth grade students explored the wetlands surrounding Duke Energy’s Cayuga Generating Station. The plant sits on the Wabash River where students can learn by examining fish and insects. The course is designed to teach students about the importance of a wetland ecosystem, its wildlife, and related careers.
Riverton Parke Junior High’s eighth grade students rotated through twelve different learning stations last Friday including: Pond Ecology, Riparian Buffer, Radio Telemetry, Wabash River, Beavers/Muskrats, Wildlife, Tallgrass Prairie, Hydrology, Bats, River Ecology, Engineering, and Entomology.
This study trip was a cooperative effort between the Purdue Extensions in both Parke and Vermillion Counties and Duke Energy with other local agencies participating.
