Eight members of the Riverton Parke FFA Chapter competed in the State Livestock Skillathon Contest on Saturday, October 5th. The contest was held at the Purdue Animal Science Research Farm in West Lafayette, Indiana. Teams must qualify for the state contest by competing in the area contest where the top five senior teams and top two junior teams get to advance. At the state contest, members compete in both individual and team portions of the contest. In the individual portion, members must identify various cuts of meat, livestock breeds, feeds and livestock equipment, take a quiz over the animal science industry, complete a quality assurance quiz, and judge classes of meat, wool, and hay. In the team portion, members work together to complete various exercises relating to animal science. The senior team, consisting of Sophie Sanders, Emily Adams, Katilynn Koch, and Thomas Koch, competed in the 4-H division of the contest. They placed 7th overall as a team. Individually, Sophie Sanders placed 9th, Emily Adams placed 17th, Katilynn Koch placed 27th, and Thomas Koch placed 29th. The junior team, consisting of Logan Mager, Aubrey Adams, Brogan Griffin, and Abbi Little, placed 12th overall. Individually, Logan Mager placed 27th and Aubrey Adams placed 31st. The Livestock Skillathon Team is coached by FFA advisor, Michaela Woods.
