Eleven Riverton Parke FFA members attended the 97th National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 23-25, 2024. Over 70,000 FFA members and guests attended this year’s National Convention from all across the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. To start their trip to the National FFA Convention, Riverton Parke FFA members first visited the Indianapolis Zoo on Wednesday, October 23rd. At the zoo, members had the opportunity to view the various animal exhibits as well as go on a "Behind the Scenes” tour of the dolphin exhibit. On their tour, FFA members observed the dolphins in their holding pens, learned about the work of the dolphin trainers, and toured the kitchens where they prepare the dolphins’ food. Wednesday afternoon, they attended the opening session of the National FFA Convention where they witnessed the Presentation of the Flags and heard a keynote speech from Kevin Wanzer. On Thursday, FFA members started the day at the FFA Expo where they interacted with various business representatives and agriculture colleges to learn more about future opportunities within the agricultural industry. Students also attended various student workshops to help strengthen their leadership skills. The second general session took place Thursday afternoon where proficiency and career development awards were presented and Grant Norfleet, the National FFA Secretary, gave his retiring address. To end the week, the chapter attended the fourth general session where they had the opportunity to hear the keynote address from Dr. Temple Grandin along with the retiring address from the National FFA Southern Region Vice President, Carter Howell. Friday afternoon, members enjoyed the Three Hills FFA Command Performance Rodeo at the Indiana State Fairgrounds before heading home. FFA advisors, Michaela Woods and Micah Humphreys, organized and attended the National Convention trip with the FFA members.
