Riverton Parke FFA Competes in Area Crops and Forestry Contests

Members of the Riverton Parke FFA Chapter competed in the Area V Crops and Forestry Contest on November 19th held at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. In the Crops Career Development Event (CDE), members showcase their agronomy skills through identification of crop and weed plants and seeds, various diseases, damages, and insects, and machinery. Students must also complete grain grading and a knowledge exam. Logan Mager, Andy Yeargin, and Brogan Griffin competed in the junior division of the Crops CDE. As a team, they placed 2nd overall. Individually, Logan placed 2nd, Andy placed 6th, and Brogan placed 8th. They will advance to compete in the State Contest. In the Forestry CDE, members showcase their forestry knowledge through identification of leaves, seeds, diseases, insects, and woods. Students must also complete a knowledge exam. Rye Swinford, Cathleen McKee, Scarlett Stites, and Alexis Fisher competed in the senior division and placed 6th overall. Individually, Rye placed 4th, Cathleen placed 28th, and Scarlett placed 29th. Dawn Koester also competed in the senior division as an individual. Keaton Lanzone, Carson Harkrider, and Justin Harkrider competed in the junior division. As a team, they placed 7th overall. Individually, Keaton placed 12th and Carson placed 16th.  The senior Forestry team will advance to the State Contest. Both the Crops and Forestry State Contests will be held on December 14th at Purdue University. The Crops and Forestry teams as coached by FFA advisor, Michaela Woods.
