Riverton Parke FFA Competes in State Crops and Forestry Contests

Members of the Riverton Parke FFA Chapter competed in the State Crops and Forestry Contests on Saturday, December 14th. The State Contest was held at Purdue University. To compete, teams must qualify from the Area Contest held in November. 

Andy Yeargin, Logan Mager, and Brogan Griffin competed in the junior division of the Crops Contest. In this contest, members showcase their agronomy skills through identification of crop and weed plants and seeds, various diseases, damages, and insects, and machinery. Students must also complete grain grading and a knowledge exam. As a team, they placed 11th overall. Individually, Yeargin placed 35th, Mager placed 40th, and Griffin placed 50th. In total, there were 70 junior crops individuals. 

Rye Swinford, Cathleen McKee, Scarlett Stites, and Alexis Fisher competed in the senior FFA division of the Forestry Contest. In this contest, members showcase their forestry knowledge through identification of leaves, seeds, diseases, insects, and woods. Students must also complete a knowledge exam. Individually, Swinford placed 42nd. In total, there were 195 senior FFA forestry individuals. 

The Crops and Forestry Teams are coached by FFA advisor, Michaela Woods.
