The Riverton Parke FFA Livestock Skillathon Team competed in the state contest on Saturday, September 21st held at the Purdue Animal Science Research Farm. To qualify for the state contest, teams had to compete in the area contest where the top 4 senior teams and top 2 junior teams advanced to state. At the state contest, students competed in both individual and team stations. Individual stations included: identification of equipment, breeds, retail meats, hay and wool judging, and quizzes over quality assurance and the animal science industry. Team stations included quality assurance, carcass evaluation and marketing, animal breeding, and performance and marketing. The junior team, consisting of Sarah Brown, Katilynn Koch, Wyatt Koch, and Kenzie Travis, placed 3rd overall. Sarah Brown was the 2nd overall junior individual, and Katilynn Koch was 10th. Senior team members who competed included Ray Brown, Catelin Chapman, KayRae Chapman, and Logan Harrison. The Livestock Skillathon Team was coached by FFA advisor Michaela Woods.
