Riverton Parke freshman Shelby Leitgabel was the IHSAA Rochester Regional winner in the 100 weight class on Friday.
Leitbagel won her opening match of the day with a quick pin of Liliana Ortiz of Faith Christian. RP's other two regional qualifiers Kayla Anders and Kirklee Mullican each lost their opening round match.
In the second round Leitgabel pinned Emily Krider of Columbia City to advance to the semi finals.
In the semi final she faced Sydney Stoller of Tri County who was undefeated on the season with a record of 24-0. Leitgabel jumped out to a 9-2 lead after one period. By the end of the 2nd period she maintained a 14-4 lead. She maintained her position in the 3rd period and won the match 17-7.
The championship match was a rematch of the Sectional championship match from a week earlier as Leitgabel faced off with Emma Ellis of Terre Haute North. Leitgabel dominated the match, leading 9-0 after one period and winning by pin in the 2nd period.
Leitgabel is now 17-4 on the season and will wrestle at the inaugural IHSAA Girls State Finals on Friday January 17. The event will be at the Corteva Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairground. The event will be live streamed on IHSAAtv.org. Matches start at 10:00 AM.
