Two Selected as Delegates to Hoosier Girls State

Riverton Parke Jr.-Sr. High School juniors, Emily Adams and Alexis Blankenship, have been chosen as delegates to attend the American Legion Auxiliary Hoosier Girls State at Trine University in Angola, Indiana this summer. These young women exhibit the following criteria: have completed their junior year of high school, are interested in government and current events, have high moral character, possess strong leadership abilities, have an above average scholastic standing, and have a desire to learn.

From June 22-28, 2025, Adams and Blankenship will join other girls from across the state to learn more about city, county, and state government. The delegates will be divided into two mythical political “parties”. They will elect public officials at the city, county, and state levels and govern effectively throughout the session. Activities will include workshops, legislative sessions, campaigning, party rallies, debating, and voting.

The goals of the Hoosier Girls State program are: to develop leadership and pride in American citizens, to educate delegates about our system of government, to instill in delegates a greater understanding of American traditions, and to stimulate a desire to maintain our government process.

This opportunity is being financed by the Rosedale American Legion Post 290. The sponsorship fee covers the full expense of the delegates’ meals and accommodations.
